This week at VCU we are working with the Wellness Resource Center to reframe stress culture around finals time with the #MindfulFinals campaign. As a part of the campaign I explored resilience measures in students and how you can use mindfulness to bolster resilience.
One of the many ways that my colleagues at VCU translate mental health and substance use research into media for students and others on campus is the Stall Seat Journal. Recently I worked with my lab colleague Dr. Jinni Su to explain how her recent study on the SSJ reveals that learning about peer drinking habits actually impacts a person's individual drinking habits, showing that translating and disseminating research is a valuable part of more broad campaigns to curb problem substance use on campus.
This week Doll Baby premieres a new music video for "Silver Stars" from their fantastic new EP, Hell Block, at Hardywood! I put together a short preview article with behind the scenes photos from Ashley Travis and I for Dust Up!
This week I got to #LivetheDream and spend some time with Paws for Stress making a video about how animal therapy and owning pets impacts student mental health and substance use! Check out the video on the COBE blog and don't miss the December Paws for Stress event next Monday in the VCU Student Commons!
In the Fall of 2016, COBE launched THRIVE, a living-learning community that brought together a hallway of around 40 students to learn more about research on health and wellness in the classroom and in real life.
